Dropped off my car to get new rubber this morning. At 2 o’clock I get a call to tell me it’s ready... and that someone hit my car in the parking lot.
Fuck me. Where did it get hit? The guy on the phone didn’t know, but the guy that saw it happen (yay witnesses) did get the company name off of the truck, which just drove off. He even called the company to tell them one of their vehicles had just hit one of their customer’s cars. They acknowledged that they had GPS on all of their trucks, so they’d be able to verify that one was there.
So I walked over to the tire shop (not far from where I work) and the picture above is what was waiting for me. I spoke to the guy who witnessed it, collected all of the info and took my car. Back at work I called my insurance company and the company that the truck belongs too. They were already working on figuring out who was driving, and the lady in charge of their fleet was pleasant. She told me to email her a quote and that they would obviously take full responsibility
Its all cosmetic damage, it’s gonna get fixed and it isn’t going to cost me a penny.
Now, dealing with companies, insurance and body shops is probably something that would incite anger in most people, and for the short-but-long walk over there I was steaming. But this is exactly what I wanted. I even asked for it, and not even by close-parking some asshat BMW taking up two spaces at the gym.
So how is this exactly what I wanted? Well, you see that front license plate bracket? It’s screwed right in to the paint. It was necessary when I bought the car in front-plate mandatory B.C., And even if I still lived there, there are other mounting methods that are less damaging, but now that I live in Albertastan it’s just an eyesore. I hate it so much. I had actually joked that I wanted someone to hit the nose of my car, and just the nose, with just enough damage to require replacing the whole front clip so I could get rid of the front plate bracket.
Careful what you wish for.

Go to a good body shop, get a new front bumper and fender, don’t settle for repaints or repairs. My ultramarine was repainted and it looks pretty good, the color isn’t that hard to match.
Also check out the alignment of the car, it looks like the tire was hit. Even if the tire wasn’t damaged, suspension components taking a hit at that angle and be out of whack.
Great time for brake ducts too.

When blacktruck got hit in the front bumper this was my first thought too. Unfortunately front plates are required here. I told the body shop not to put the mount on about 30 times. They left it off and my truck is better looking for it.

Does the Frs have useless holes located for Japanese plates?

Watch the body shop take it back to original condition, (re)installing a front license plate mount...

I’d been lamenting the dealer sticker on my car before it got hit in our office parking lot. $3K in damage, got a new bumper and a new hatch. No longer have a dealer sticker on the back. It took 6 weeks to be fully repaired though.

This discussion was had when I got the quote. I think I'll take it off before I take the car in anyways.

Ouch. 6 weeks? Is that how long they had your car or just the time between impact and the end of repairs?
Fortunately the dealer I got my car from didn’t sticker any FR-Ses. Unfortunately the did mount front plate brackets.

The quote is for a new nose. It's beyond repair.

Did you also wish for the diminished value? If not, make sure you add that to your claim.

It was in the shop for 6 weeks. Took forever to get an appointment at the shop because it was mid-winter (prime time for body work) and took awhile to get the responsible party to agree to pay. Which they then backed out on so I went to my insurance. Huge hassle. (Basically, they agreed to pay the initial estimate but balked at any payment for damage revealed once the car was taken apart...they then tried to demand that their fleet maintenance do the body work instead - seriously??)
Part of what took so long was back ordered parts and part of it was matching some custom stripes that we had thought were a dealer option but turned out not to be. The rest...probably just an overbooked shop.

When I had to have my hood and front quarter panel replaced, I was waiting two or three weeks for the parts to arrive from Japan. That was almost two years ago, so hopefully parts are easier to source now.

I’m waiting on parts to replace the side windows and weather stripping, and that’s been a couple weeks already. I might be waiting a little while.

Doesn’t matter, if she had a clean carfax before then the party at fault owes you diminished value to make you whole again. Of course, I don’t know if that’s the case. Just mentioning it as a friendly reminder because a lot of people just don’t know/think about DV.
